Box Score 2 NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- The Midway baseball team returned to River States Conference play on Saturday when they traveled to New Albany, Ind. to open their three-game series against IU Southeast (Ind.) with a doubleheader at Koetter Sports Baseball Complex.
It was a tough day for the Blue and Gold as they came up short in the opener 6-4 before dropping the nightcap by a final of 15-5.
Following the two losses, the Eagles slip to 22-20 overall and 16-7 in league play, while the Grenadiers improve to 26-16 overall and 16-6 in RSC play.
Game 1: IU Southeast 6, Midway 4
IU Southeast struck first, scoring three in the fourth and three more in the seventh to grab a 6-0 lead. That lead would stand until the final frame where Midway scored four runs on four hits after being held to just three hits through the opening eight innings.
Barrett McGill (Bloomfield, Ky.) got the Eagles on the board with a two-run double, while Shane Taylor (Morehead, Ky.) went deep for his first homer of the season. The sophomore hit a two-run shot to right field to make the final score 6-4.
Blake Kincaid (Columbia, Tenn.) was handed the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in his six innings of work on the bump. Tyler Pyles (Louisville, Ky.), meanwhile, tossed two innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Game 2: IU Southeast 15, Midway 5
Midway struck first with a run on three hits in the opening frame. Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) and Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) had back-to-back one-out singles before Barrett McGill had an RBI single scoring Davis and giving the visitors the early 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Grenadiers scored 15 unanswered runs and took a commanding 15-1 lead heading into the seventh frame where Midway scored four runs on four hits to make the final score 15-5.
Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.) had an RBI single, and Eli Glasscock (Danville, Ky.) had a two-run triple before scoring on an RBI groundout by Davis.
Owen Clark (Knoxville, Ky.) took the loss after allowing 10 runs – six earned – on nine hits in his three innings of work. John Davis (Princeton, Ky.) and Jose Aviles (Hatillo, Puerto Rico), meanwhile, allowed one run each in their inning of relief.
