Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After taking the first two games of the series on Thursday afternoon, the Midway baseball team returned to Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium on Monday looking to complete a River States Conference sweep against IU Kokomo (Ind.).

Thanks to five runs in the third inning and another four in the sixth, the Eagles posted a 14-4 run-rule victory over the Cougars to complete the elongated sweep.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 18-13 overall and 12-3 in the RSC, while IU Kokomo falls to 16-14 for the year and 7-7 in conference play.

The Cougars put up three runs in the top of the first, but the Eagles answered right back with a trio of its own. After Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) scored on a wild pitch, Shane Taylor (Morehead, Ky.) grounded into a fielder's choice scoring Josh Halterman (Lexington, Ky.). Eli Glasscock (Danville, Ky.) then sent an RBI single to tying the game at three.

The Eagles then put up five runs in the bottom of the third. Glasscock singled to right with the bases loaded scoring one, and Ayden Sciandra (Jacksonville, Fla.) drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch. Noah Phillips (Greenville, Ky.) then picked up an RBI on a fielders choice before later scoring on a wild pitch. Glasscock, meanwhile, scored on an error putting Midway's lead at 8-3.

While the Cougars added a run in the top of the fourth, Midway answered with four in the bottom of the sixth. Nichols opened the inning with a single before later scoring on an RBI double by Taylor. Taylor then scored on an RBI single by Glasscock, while Sciandra hit a towering two-run homer to left to close out the scoring.

In the bottom of the seventh, Glasscock pushed the lead to nine with a sacrifice fly to left, while Phillips reached a bases loaded walk to end the game and complete the run-rule victory.

On the mound, Dylan Burton (Somerset, Ky.) picked up the win to improve to 3-3 on the season. He tossed four innings allowing four runs – three earned – on three hits with four strikeouts. Luke Richardson (Franklin, Ky.) fanned five in his 2.1 innings of work, while Cameron Head (Salem, Ky.) surrendered just one hit in his 0.2 innings of work.

Eli Glasscock led the way at the plate going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs. Cameron Nichols added two hits and three runs, while Josh Halterman also recorded two hits. Ayden Sciandra drove in three runs and Shane Taylor carded two RBIs and two runs in the win.
