Four-run seventh inning lifts baseball to DH split with Huntington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway's first home baseball games of the season had no shortage of excitement, with the Eagles securing a dramatic walk-off win in the second game of a doubleheader against Huntington (Ind.) Thursday.

After dropping the opener 4-3, the Eagles faced a three-run deficit going into their final at-bat, only to score four runs before the Foresters even recorded an out, walking off a 9-8 win on an Eli Glasscock RBI single.

GAME TWO: MIDWAY 9, HUNTINGTON 8

Trailing 7-4 entering the sixth, it appeared the Eagles may have squandered their best chance at a comeback when they loaded the bases but only managed to score one run. The deficit would then quickly return to three runs on a solo home run by Dylan Rost.

Midway appeared like it would be down to two outs, but caught a break when Forester reliever Max Meisner air-mailed a throw to first base to put the leadoff man aboard. Things then got very interesting when Nick Eastham, DJ Morain and Brady Vaughn all walked, making it 8-6 with the bags full an no outs.

A new pitcher did little to thwart the Eagles, as ensuing batter Ayden Sciandra blasted a two-run double to left field. Sciandra finished the game 3-for-4 and also had an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Glasscock, who had been called out on a disputed batter interference call in the previous inning, was then able to get some redemption with the game-winning single to left field, ensuring Midway would escape the day with a split.

GAME ONE: HUNTINGTON 4, MIDWAY 3

Aided by a heavy wind blowing out, Brady Vaughn ripped an absolute moon shot to left field in the bottom of the fourth, his two-run home run landing out of sight and giving Midway a 3-1 lead.

But that same wind would provide a much worse outcome for the Eagles in the top of the fifth.

With runners on second and third and one out, Matt Wolfe hit what looked to be a routine fly ball that likely would have brought home a run, but would have preserved Midway's lead and produced a second out. Instead, it just kept carrying and didn't come down until it had crossed the left-centerfield wall, giving the Foresters a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Midway put two runners on in the bottom of the fifth and the tying run on in the seventh, but produced no runs in the process.

The Eagles have a quick turnaround and are back at home for a doubleheader against Madonna (Mich.) tomorrow. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m.
