ELGIN, Ill. - Midway lost a pair of men's volleyball matches on day one of the Judson Eagle Classic on Friday, dropping the Eagles' record to 2-7.

The Eagles lost a 25-23, 25-17, 25-9 final to Judson (Ill.) then fell 25-22, 25-12, 25-17 to Calvin (Mich.) in match two.

JUDSON 3, MIDWAY 0

Daniel Cogo kicked things off with a service ace as the Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set.

A 5-0 Judson run kick-started a string of rallies, with Midway tying the score at 22 on a Jai'Den Chinnis kill, followed by a Judson attack error. But Judson answered with an Elijah Gregg kill that helped seal the set.

Midway then fell victim to big runs in the second and third sets. Judson broke a 9-9 tie with eight straight points in the second, then scored the first 12 points of a third set in which Midway finished with a negative-.316 hitting percentage.

Daniel Cogo had 11 assists, with Joseph Boujaoude and Chinnis tying for the team lead with four kills.

CALVIN 3, MIDWAY 0

Set one was again Midway's strongest. The Eagles held a 17-16 lead off a Knight error and were within 23-22 on a Martin Walker kill. But Calvin was able to put the set away immediately after, answering with a Jonathan Pheifer kill that was followed by an Eagle attack error.

The offense then struggled in the final two sets, accumulating a negative hitting percentage in both. The Knights took advantage, accumulating three separate 6-0 runs in that time to complete the sweep.

Cogo had 18 more assists while Jose Conde made 14 digs for Midway, which has two more matches on day two of the Eagle Classic Saturday.

The Eagles face Olivet (Mich.) at 11 a.m. and Roosevelt (Ill.) at 1:30 p.m.
