Point Park surges past Midway in opener of three-game series

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - What looked to be a momentum-shifting rally in Midway's favor quickly turned into a disaster, as Point Park countered four-straight Eagle runs with 10-straight over its last three at-bats to secure a 13-4 win in the first of a three-game River States baseball series between the two teams Thursday.

Behind early after Isaac Santana hit a three-run home run in the first inning, Midway answered with a pair of runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take a 4-3 lead. An RBI double by Shane Taylor and RBI single by Eli Glasscock got the Eagles within 3-2 before they pulled ahead a two-run, sixth-inning double by Britten Robinson.

The lead would be short-lived as the Pioneers, the RSC's preseason favorite, pulled back in front in the ensuing at-bat before Midway recorded its first out. A walk and a double was followed by an RBI double by Carlos Martinez and RBI single by Omar Morillo to make it 5-4.

After getting a force out at home, the Eagles looked to be in position to end the inning, only for a potential double-play ball to turn into a two-run error that extended what became a six-run inning.

The Pioneers then added three more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, all with two outs, to send the Eagles to a fourth-consecutive loss.

Now 12-12 overall and 4-3 in River States play, the Eagles will look to rebound as the series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m Friday.
