Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Point Park completed a three-game River States Conference baseball sweep of Midway Friday, topping the Eagles 8-5 and 8-0 in a doubleheader in Pittsburgh.
GAME ONE
Much as they did in the series opener Thursday, the Pioneers overcame a one-run deficit with a big inning, this one a five-run surge after they entered the bottom of the third inning down 1-0.
A big part of the outcome was, once again, a home run by Isaac Santana. Santana, who hit a three-run homer in the first inning Thursday, blasted a grand slam in Friday's opener, turning a 1-1 tie into a 5-1 Point Park lead.
Ayden Sciandra opened and closed the game's scoring with an RBI single in the first and and RBI triple in the eighth. Sciandra, Josh Halterman, Shane Taylor and Britten Robinson all had two hits, with Robinson hitting an RBI single in the fourth and Halterman driving in two with a double in the seventh.
GAME TWO
There would be no lead change in the final game of the series, as the Pioneers hit a pair of three-run home runs in the first inning, the first of which coming from Santana, who concluded the series with 12 runs batted in.
Midway's offense wasn't able to counter. Eli Glasscock had two hits, including a double to leadoff the game, but the Eagles had just four as a team on the way to their sixth-consecutive loss, with five of those coming in conference games.
Things only get tougher next week, as the Eagles, who are 12-14 overall and 4-5 in the RSC, travel to face Cumberlands (Ky.), the No. 5-ranked team in the NAIA, for a 3 p.m. non-conference game on Tuesday.
