WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Midway baseball came into Williamsburg ready to fight against NAIA fifth-ranked University of the Cumberlands, but a fast start quickly turned ugly, as the Patriots pulled away for a 26-5 win, handing the Eagles their seventh straight loss.

Rattling the bats early, the Eagles scored two runs off of first-inning hits from Jonathan Watson, Nick Eastham, and DJ Morain. That however, was when the tide turned, as the Patriots would fire back with three hits of their own while scoring four runs in the bottom of the first.

Things took an even bigger turn in the second when Cumberlands put up nine runs. Though Josh Halterman recorded his one hit of the game, both teams went scoreless in the third. Midway showed its grit coming out in the fourth and scoring two runs from two hits by Ayden Sciandra and Eli Glasscock and another run on an RBI single Watson in the fifth.

The Patriots added to their lead by adding four and nine runs respectively in their next two at-bats, then capped off the game with a run in the seventh.

Midway (12-15) is coming up on a key River States Conference series against Indiana Southeast this weekend. The Eagles will play the first game of the series against IUS Friday at 3 p.m.
