IUS tops Midway in series opener behind 10-run inning

Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. - Behind a 10-run fourth inning, Indiana Southeast coasted to a 13-1 win over Midway in the first of a three-game River States Conference baseball series on Friday.

The Eagles seemed to have some momentum after escaping a bases-loaded jam unscathed in the third, only for disaster to strike the next time the Grenadiers came to bat.

After IUS opened with three straight hits, including a two-run Logan Murphy single, the wheels completely fell off as Midway committed errors on three straight plays. The Eagles had four errors in an inning that ended with IUS recording seven hits and sending 15 batters to the plate.

Midway also struggled to get things going against Grenadier ace Luke Schafer, getting just three hits and one run on an RBI single by Barrett McGill in the sixth.

Garrett Worthington had the other two hits for the Eagles, who fell to 12-16 after their eighth loss in a row.

Midway is now 4-6 in the RSC while Indiana Southeast is 8-2. The two teams will play a doubleheader in Midway Saturday, with game one set to begin at noon.
