Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - In a very similar repeat from the night before, Midway came close to pulling even in the second set, only to stumble down the stretch in an eventual sweep, this one a 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 loss to Mid-South Conference foe Cumberlands (Tenn.).
Down by as many as four halfway through the set, the Eagles rallied to take leads of 21-20 and 22-21, both on Audran Schmid kills.
Unfortunately, those play were followed by consecutive attack errors, and the Phoenix eventually closed on a 4-0 run.
Midway led the third set 5-3 following a Steven Tippenhauer kill, but Cumberlands responded by scoring the next five points and never trailed again. The Phoenix finished the night with a better-than-two-to-one advantage in both kills (43-20) and assists (40-19).
Joseph Boujaoude had a team-high six kills and 10 digs, while Daniel Cogo had 10 assists as the Eagles fall to 2-17 overall and 0-7 in the MSC.
Midway has a week off before traveling to face NAIA seventh-ranked Georgetown next Wednesday.
