Box Score 2 MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway again struggled to get clutch hits, as Oakland City handed the Eagles their 11th and 12th straight losses in a River States Conference baseball doubleheader Friday.
The Eagles stranded 19 runners on base and got just one hit with men in scoring position over the two games, which they lost by finals of 8-4 and 6-0.
GAME ONE
Things started out great for Midway, which jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Preston Howard started the scoring with a bases-loaded walk before Britten Robinson scored on a wild pitch.
The Eagles wouldn't score again until the seventh, falling behind 5-2 in the process. Fred Fernandez did the most damage, driving in the Mighty Oaks' first run on a solo home run in the fourth inning, then breaking a 2-2 tie with a two-run single in the fifth.
Midway got within a run when loading the bases again in the seventh. The Eagles made it 5-3 on a Barrett McGill single, then 5-4 when Howard again got another RBI without a hit, this time after being hit by a pitch.
The momentum would be short-lived, unfortunately. With two on, Leyton Ivers took the wind out of Midway's sails with a three-run home run to left field.
McGill had two hits while Robinson scored two runs.
GAME TWO
Fernandez struck again with a solo home run in the second inning and the Eagles were held scoreless despite putting at least one runner on in six of seven at-bats, with men getting into scoring position in four innings.
Jonathan Watson had a team-best two hits in game two for Midway, which is now 12-20 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
The teams will conclude a three-game series in Midway at noon Saturday.
