Box Score 2 BECKLEY, W.V. - Midway pitchers had an excellent day, but the Eagle offense was unable to support their efforts on Friday.
The Eagles, who came in a perfect 4-0 in River States Conference play, mustered just one run in two games as West Virginia Tech earned 1-0 and 2-1 wins in a doubleheader.
GAME ONE
In an excellent pitching battle, the Bears were able to manufacture a single unearned run off a Noah Lukas sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. That proved enough offense for Tech, which had just two hits off Eagle pitchers Blake Kincaid and Jackson Lee, who combined for nine strikeouts.
Midway bats had no answer for Bear starter Robert Kelley, who went the distance, allowing just four hits and one walk with 15 strikeouts.
The Eagles' best chance came in the top of the seventh, when they put two on with one out on singles by Nick Eastham and Barrett McGill, only for the rally to end when Kelley was able to force a 4-6-3, inning-ending double play.
GAME TWO
The offense finally got something rolling in the second inning of game two, when Britten Robinson drove in Ayden Sciandra on a single. But after the Bears re-took the lead 2-1 in the fifth inning, Midway was only able to put one runner on base in its final two at-bats.
Friday's games were a major change of pace from the previous two matchups between the Bears and the Eagles, in which Midway scored 25 runs on 29 hits en route to two wins.
In the loss, Dylan Burton went the distance, striking out five while allowing five hits in six innings.
The Eagles are now 12-10 on the season, 4-2 in the RSC. Before traveling to face preseason RSC favorite and NAIA 20th-ranked Point Park (Pa.) for a big conference series next weekend, Midway is scheduled to host Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) game Tuesday.
