Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - The top scoring offense in the country lived up to its billing, as NAIA fourth-ranked Cumberlands snapped Midway's six-game win streak with a 23-7 win on Tuesday.
The Patriots jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Midway answered with three runs in the bottom of the second, the first run coming when Britten Robinson scored on a passed ball, the next two on an Eli Glasscock single.
Shane Taylor added to his recent hot streak by going 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the third inning. Down 15-5 in the seventh, Midway avoided a run-rule loss temporarily, extending the game thanks to a two-out, two-run single by Preston Howard.
But that immediately led to an eight-run eighth inning. The biggest hit came from Charlie Muniz, who completed his seven RBI game with a grand slam. Muniz, who entered the day tied for the national lead with 22 home runs, hit one of three long balls by the Patriots, who now have an NAIA-best 99 as a team.
The Eagles fall to 18-22 on the season. They close out the River States Conference portion of their schedule this weekend with a three-game series at Indiana Kokomo. The first game is at 3 p.m. Friday.
