Box Score KOKOMO, Ind. - Midway baseball had arguably its best performance against a River States Conference opponent this season, as the Eagles went on the road and defeated RSC West Division co-leader Indiana Kokomo 6-3 to open the final series of league play Friday.
The Eagles took an immediate lead, as Eli Glasscock led off the game with a single then scored on an RBI single by Josh Halterman two batters later. Both players finished the game with two hits.
The red-hot duo of Nick Eastham and Shane Taylor then helped stretch the lead to 4-0 after the third inning. Eastham, the reining RSC Player of the Week, led off the second inning with his third home run in his last four games, before Taylor had an RBI double and scored on a Zane Patton sacrifice fly in the third.
The pair then helped turn things back in Midway's favor after the Cougars rallied back within 4-3.
Halterman and Taylor led off the seventh with back-to-back hits then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. After Halterman scored on a Barrett McGill sacrifice fly, Eastham doubled home Taylor for the game's final run.
Eastham, who went 2-for-3 Friday, is 9-of-14 with 11 RBIs, seven extra-base hits and five walks in his lasts five games, while Taylor, 3-for-5 Friday, is 15-of-21 with 10 RBIs and eight runs scored in that same span.
After breaking Midway's single-season strikeout record in his last outing, Owen Clark added eight more to his tally Friday, allowing just one run and three hits in five innings to improve his record to 6-2. He now has an even 100 strikeouts for the season.
Still working his way back from injury, Blake Kincaid saw his most extensive action in over a month out of the bullpen, striking out three in four innings of work to get the save.
The win was Midway's seventh-straight against an RSC opponent and moved the Eagles back to .500 at 11-11 in league play. It also helped them play the role of spoiler, as IU Kokomo entered the weekend tied with Indiana Southeast atop the RSC West standings at 17-4.
The conference portion of the regular season schedule will conclude on Saturday when the two team play a doubleheader in Kokomo. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
