Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Tenth-ranked Georgetown withstood a valiant second-set from Midway that was sandwiched between a pair of 10-point wins, as the Tigers swept the Eagles 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 in a Mid-South men's volleyball match Wednesday.
As they have for much of the season, the Eagles were at their best in set two. While a 1-0 lead off an Audran Schmid kill proved to be Midway's only lead of the match, the Eagles put themselves in position to pull even, and even used a 4-1 run to force a 19-19 tie lat in the second set.
But following a timeout, Georgetown re-established control by scoring six of the final eight points, with four coming off Eagle errors.
Midway stayed close for awhile in set three, getting within 11-9 on a Colton Marsh kill, but the Tigers, who had a .560 hitting percentage in the set, responded by holding a 14-6 scoring edge the rest of the way.
Daniel Cogo had 13 assists while tying Jonathan McGuyer for the team lead with five digs. Marsh, Schmid and Jai'Den Chinnis all had five kills, with Marsh (.556) and Schmid (.400) hitting .400 or better.
The Eagles will play the second match of a back-to-back Thursday, traveling to face Thomas More at 7 p.m.
