CINCINNATI, Ohio - Having already found national-qualifying levels of success in one field event, Midway freshman
Maddi Reed thrived in another on Saturday.
One day after hitting the
NAIA National Qualifying 'A' standard in the pole vault, Reed took first in the high jump for the Midway indoor track and field team at the Lions Invitational, hosted by Mount Saint Joseph (Ohio) on Saturday.
The Eagle women tied for eighth in the 11-team field with 31 points, while the men had three athletes score in two field events, placing 11th with 7.5.
Reed earned the top spot by securing a three-way tie-breaker against Makaela Lovely of Shawnee State (Ohio) and Malene Obermeyer of Union (Ky.), winning with a top jump of 1.50 meters.
She had a good day on the track as well, placing third in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.14 seconds.
Though Reed and
fellow national qualifier Nevaeh Brown sat out the pole vault, Midway still got a win in the event from
Makayla Brooks. Brooks, a two-time national qualifier herself, topped out at 3.04 meters on Saturday.
Also scoring for Midway was
Kashlynn Rice, who was fourth in long jump at 4.27.
MEN'S RESULTS
Brayden Carson and
Harry Van Why IV both got Midway points in the high jump. Carson tied for sixth with a top height of 1.83, with Van Why placing eighth at 1.78.
In triple jump,
Ben Jones finished seventh at 12.50, coming just .01 meters shy of Berea's Robert Russel in sixth place.
The Eagles will go back-to-back on Friday and Saturday for the second-consecutive weekend, starting with an appearance at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic in Louisville next Friday.
