MADISONVILLE, Ky. - After nearly getting there a day earlier, freshman archer
Kelli Booth successfully worked her way into the Midway record books on Sunday.
Booth became the first Eagle to ever win a Mid-South Conference championship, earning the top spot in the fixed pin women's individual division at the MSC Indoor Championships, which concluded Sunday.
The Eagles finished in sixth place overall in the 10-team tournament.
After a comfortable 146-141 win in the opening round, Booth survived a scare in the quarterfinals, narrowly winning 144-143 against Hunter Tunstill of Pikeville .
This set up a showdown with teammate and older sister
Carrie Booth in the semis, in which Kelli came out on top 146-142.
Then, in the finals, Booth won each of the first four rounds 30-29 against Hanna Summers of Cumberlands. While Summers won the fifth and final round by that same score, Booth had more than enough breathing room, earning a trip to the podium with a final tally of 149-146.
Sunday concluded a great weekend of fixed pin competition for Midway. Kelli, Carrie and
Jessica Badgett finished second
in the women's fixed pin team division Saturday.
Carrie Booth,
who was the individual fixed pin runner-up at USA Archery's 3D National Tournament in October, ended up in fourth place this weekend.
The Eagles will have two weeks off before the USA Archery Indoor National Tournament, which will be held in Owensboro from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.
