DANVILLE, Ky. - In an 11th-place finish at the Speedo Invitational over the weekend, the Midway men's swimming team was able to break eight program records.
Caique Nunes Maia and
Daniel Maia combined for four individual records and three top-10 finishes.
Nunes Maia was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.89 and eighth in the 100 free in 46.69. He also set a program record in the 200 freestyle, finishing 11th in 1:42.54.
Daniel Maia set a new program high mark in the 100 individual medley, where he finished seventh in 55.90.
David Roach also broke the 200 butterfly record in 2:03.31
Nunes Maia's weekend got even better in relays, as he was also part of four record-setting Midway teams.
In the 400 medley, Nunes Maia, Roach,
Jalen Wright and
Caua Kreia swam a 3:39.18. That same group also swam a 7:23.94 in the 800 freestyle relay.
In the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, the team of Nunes Maia, Roach,
Jalen Wright and
Rider Burton set team records as well, swimming a 1:28.13 in the 200 and a 3:16.64 in the 400.
Midway will now have an extended break, not returning to competition until a Jan. 10 trip Sewanee, Tenn. for a dual against the University of the South.
