SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Midway men's and women's swim teams returned from a seven-week sabbatical with a second-place showing at the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday.
The Eagles got a win apiece in both men's and women's competition to record a score of 825. Sewanee won with 1,542 while Brenau (Ga.) was third with 593
MEN'S RESULTS
The men's team got a standout day from
Jalen Wright, highlighted by his first-place time of 1:01 in the 100-yard backstroke.
Wright also placed second in the 100 freestyle in 51.07.
Three other Eagles combined for four runner-up performances.
Daniel Maia took second in both the 100 breast (1:05.27) and 200 back (2:15.26), while
Rider Burton was second in the 50 free (23.24) and
David Roach was second in the 200 breast (2:31.40)
WOMEN'S RESULTS
Taking gold in the 200 butterfly on the women's side was
Sydney Eastman, who finished in a time of 2:21.54.
Elsewhere,
Josie Briner set a new program record in the 1,000 free with a second-place time of 11:39.62. She also took second in the 200 medley relay, swimming a 1:57.02 with
Amber Klose,
Kaelynn Martin and
Elizabeth Dolberry.
Klose got second in the 100 breast with a swim of 1:13.69 as well.
The Eagles will conclude the home portion of their schedule next Saturday, hosting a triangle meet with Indiana Wesleyan and Shawnee State. Prior to competition, the team will hold a senior day celebration.
