MIDWAY, Ky. - After
locking up a spot in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Saturday, Midway's
Emerson VanScoy was rewarded with a River States Conference Field Athlete of the Week award.
VanScoy, fresh off of
qualifying for indoor high jump nationals last month, secured an outdoor national spot in the same event at the Pioneer Invitational, jumping 1.67 meters, which is .01 meters higher than the qualifying 'B' standard.
That performance was also enough to earn her a win and a new program high jump record.
This marks the second year in a row a Midway athlete has won the RSC field award after a record-setting opening meet.
Trinity Gottler, herself a two-time winner at the Pioneer Invitational Saturday,
won the award on March 18 of last year.
Midway has another in-state road meet on Saturday, traveling to Berea for the Landon Bond Classic at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.Â
