LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Several of Midway's women's track and field standouts had great showings against NCAA Division-I opponents at the Jim Vargo Invitational, hosted by Bellarmine University Saturday.
Leading the way
was two-time indoor All-American Emerson VanScoy, who took first in high jump while setting a new personal record in a runner-up long jump finish.
VanScoy was the victor at 1.61 meters in high jump, finishing ahead of seven D-I athletes. She then jumped 5.44 meters in long jump, behind only the 5.94 of Skyler Reynolds of the University of Kentucky.Â
Maddi Reed,
who joined VanScoy on the All-American podium at Indoor Nationals three weeks ago, missed qualifying for the Outdoor Championships by the narrowest margin.
In a fifth-place finish, Reed had a top jump of 3.67, a mere .01 meters under the national qualifying 'B' standard.
One spot behind Reed was Cate Coppola, who topped out a 3.52.
Elsewhere,
Trinity Gottler, the reigning
River States Conference Field Athlete of the Week, took eighth in hammer throw (45.32) and
Kashlynn Rice was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.36 seconds).
The Eagles will be back at it next Saturday, traveling to Danville, Ky. for the Centre Invitational.Â
