Midway cheer takes third at MSC, Freire named conference Coach of the Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Midway had another record-setting scoring performance at the Mid-South Conference Cheerleading Championships on Saturday, earning Ashley Freire league Coach of the Year honors in the process.

The Eagles came in third in the eight-team field with a score of 86.81. Georgetown took first with 95.53 while Cumberlands was second with 88.87.

The performance topped the previous program-record score of 84.88, set earlier this season at the Campbellsville Invitational. It was also a marked improvement from Midway's third-place performance at the MSC Championships last season, which ended with a score of 81.49.

Saturday marked the fourth time in the past two seasons the Eagles set a new program scoring record. That spike in performance helped third-year coach Freire land the Mid-South's Coach of the Year award.

She wasn't the only all-conference honoree from Midway this weekend. Marisa Folino was named an All-MSC First Team member, with Ryleigh Hargis and Shaunessy Beavan making the Second Team.

Prior to the meet, Jaiden Campbell was named Midway's Champion of Character, while Campbell and Kelsey Martin were both selected to the Mid-South All-Academic team.
