Men's T&F takes second at D-I heavy Norse Invitational

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Against a field featuring numerous NCAA Division-I teams, Midway's men's track and field team managed a second-place finish at at Northern Kentucky University's Norse Invitational Saturday.

The Eagles' 106 points were topped only by the 121 scored by host NKU.

Midway got two wins and four runner-up finishes, with Harry Van Why IV securing one of each. Van Why won triple jump at 12.99 meters and was second in long jump at 6.35. In long jump, he came in one position and .02 meters ahead of teammate Brayden Carson.

After winning discus at Friday's Asbury Invitational, Cole Sexton was victorious in shot put Saturday with a throw of 13.43 meters. Right behind Sexton was teammate Kyan Lydian, who was second at 12.32.

On the track side, Carson Milner and Ben Jones were second in the mile and 110-meter hurdles respectively. Milner ran an event-record time of 4:15.43, while Jones finished in 16.15.

Jones placed third as part of the 4x100-meter relay, teaming with Tyler Withers, Javari Burnett and Abdul Salaah to run a 43.74.

Corey Banks, who was fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.40), was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.46, .08 seconds better than Jones in fourth.

Midway got another third-place finish from Salaah in the 100-meter dash (10.91) as well as additional fourth-place showings from Carson (high jump, 1.78) and Austin Ratliff (pole vault, 3.85)

Rounding out the scoring was Karl Livingston Jr. in high jump (fifth, 1.78) and the 4x400 relay team of Bowen Workman, Elie Mugisha, Gregory Anderson and Banks (eighth, 3:37.13).

The Eagles will stay in Kentucky for the Morehead State Eagle Twilight next Friday. That will be their last meet before the River States Conference Championships on April 25-26.
