MIDWAY, Ky. - A career-best performance helped Midway's
Emerson VanScoy earn River States Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
Two weeks after clinching an Indoor National Championship spot in pole vault, VanScoy had an even more impressive showing in her first high jump performance of the year at the Mount St. Joseph Alumni Open Saturday, hitting the national 'A' standard and winning with a height of 1.69 meters.
This was one of two events she won on Saturday, also taking first in long jump with a distance of 5.15.
VanScoy, who qualified for
both indoor and
outdoor nationals in high jump last season, is one of just 10 people in the country to hit the 'A' standard during this indoor season. She is currently tied for the No. 6 national rankings in the event.
This is VanScoy's second Athlete of the Week award, having also earned the honor
during outdoor season last March.Â
With the River States Indoor Championships less than two weeks away, the Eagles have one more tune-up at the Centre Indoor Invitational in Danville, Ky. on Friday and Saturday.
