Crestview Hills, Ky. – The Midway University men's basketball team returned to the court on Friday night when they played Thomas More (Ky.) in their opening game of the Coach Jim Connor Classic in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
The Saints (1-1) torched the nets shooting 55.4 percent (36-65) from the floor en route to the 88-70 win over the visiting Eagles. Thomas More went 10-of-22 from behind the arc for 45.5 percent.
The Eagles (0-7) didn't fare as well as the home team. Midway shot just 32.5 percent (26-80) from the floor, including 27 percent (10-37) from the trey.
The one bright spot for the Eagles came from senior, Bryson Harris. The Louisville, Ky. native poured in a game-high 31 points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Harris went 10-of-19 from the floor and 7-of-15 from long range.
The Eagles held a lead in the early going, but they trailed by one, 27-26, late in the half. Over the final 5:53 in the half, the Saints closed the half on a 19-7 run to take a 46-33 lead into the locker room.
Thomas More opened the second half on an 11-0 run to expand their lead to 57-33 just four minutes into the second stanza. The Saints led by as many as 29 as they defeated the Eagles 88-70.
Two other Eagles joined Harris in double figures. Brandon Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) and Will Hudson (Calhoun, Ky.) finished with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Brandon Maxwell (Leesville, Ky.) had a solid performance with seven points and eight boards.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow at Thomas More when they take on Berry (Ga.) in their final game of the Coach Jim Connor Classic.
