Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- After defeating Boyce (Ky.) in their home opener 48 hours prior, the Midway men's basketball team hit the road on Thursday night when they made the short drive to Georgetown (Ky.) to battle the nationally ranked Tigers in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
It was a tough night for the Midway offense as they struggled to get anything going. The Tigers took a 48-30 lead at halftime before cruising to the 80-59 victory.
With the loss, Joe Krupinski's squad suffers their first loss of the season falling to 2-1 on the season, while Georgetown – who is ranked No. 10 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll – improves to 4-0 following the win.
A jump shot by Rico Tate (Memphis, Tenn.) and a layup by Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) gave the Eagles an early 4-0 lead, but the lead was short lived. The Tigers responded with a 17-2 to take a 17-6 lead with just over 13 minutes left in the opening half.
A pair of layups by Dae'Shawn White (Newport, Ky.) and Ridge Hall (New Pekin, Ind.) got the Eagles within four, but that would be as close as they got. Over the final 4:50 of the opening stanza, Georgetown outscored the visitors 18-7 to take a 48-30 lead into the locker room.
Midway was unable to cut into the deficit in the second half as the Tigers would eventually cruise to the 80-59 victory.
The Eagles shot 38.5 percent from the floor and Georgetown shot 44.3 percent, while the home team shot 16 more free throws than the visitors. The Tigers hit 20-of-25 and the Eagles converted six of their nine attempts.
Donnie Miller led the way with a game-high 26 points, while Rico Tate was the only other Eagle to reach double figures with 10 points. Nick Keeton (Paintsville, Ky.), meanwhile, grabbed a team-high 10 boards in the loss.
The Eagles will now turn their attention to River States Conference play which gets underway on Tuesday, November 15. For their league opener, Midway will host Oakland City (Ind.) at 7:30 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
