Box Score 2 KOKOMO, Ind. -- Following a run-rule victory over Ohio Christian to open the River States Conference Tournament, the Midway softball team unfortunately saw their season come to an end on Friday (May 6) at Championship Park in Kokomo, Indiana.
In a matchup among RSC West Division foes, the Eagles were sent to the consolation bracket after suffering a 6-1 loss to St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) in their opener on Friday.
Following the loss, Midway matched up with Point Park (Pa.) – the No. 3 seed from the RSC East Division – in an elimination contest. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the seventh, but the Pioneers came storming back scoring three unearned runs to seal the 4-2 victory.
Following the two loses, the 2022 campaign came to unfortunate end for Krystal Cammuse's squad. Under the first-year head coach, the Eagles finished the season with a 30-16 mark overall. The 30 wins are the most in a single season dating back to before the 2005-06 season.
Game 1: St. Mary-of-the-Woods 6, Midway 1
The Pomeroys (27-12) struck first scoring one in the first and four in the third as they jumped to a 5-0 lead following three innings of play. Midway got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth cutting the deficit to 5-1.
With one out, Madison Ludwig stepped in the box and took matters into her own hands. The junior from Louisville, Ky. crushed her seventh home run of the season sending it over the left field fence for a solo home run.
Outside of the home run, Midway's offense was virtually nonexistent. They were held to just four hits in the contest as they struggled to get anything going against Summer Rocha. She tossed a complete game allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Carson Flynn (Henderson, Ky.), Alyssa Yates (Georgetown, Ky.) and Katie Rhodes (Cedar Hill, Tenn.) each recorded one hit apiece to makeup the other three hits for the Eagles.
Ludwig was handed the loss in the circle falling to 19-8 on the year. She allowed five runs on six hits in her 2.1 innings of work. Yates, meanwhile, tossed the final 3.2 innings allowing one run on four hits.

Following a lineout, the Eagles got on the board when Madison Ludwig hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Makenna Talcott (Gray, Ga.) then followed suit and hit an RBI single up the middle to push the lead to 2-0.
After plating two runs on three hits in the first, the Midway offense stalled and went silent over the final six innings. The final six frames saw the Eagles scatter five hits but got nothing to show for it.
Point Park got on the board with a run in the third as Midway would take a 2-1 into the bottom of the sixth. Following a near two-hour weather delay for lightning and heavy rain, play resumed as Midway took the one-run advantage into the seventh.
The Pioneers got a couple of hits and took advantage of a pair of Midway miscues as they scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh to stun the Eagles and take a 4-2 lead.
Midway had a chance in the bottom of the seventh but were sent down in order as the Pioneers held on for the 4-2 victory.
