Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The Midway men's basketball team began an 11-game road swing on Friday when they opened play in the Campbellsville Classic by taking on Mid-South Conference foe Campbellsville (Ky.).
In a game that saw neither team lead by more than six and featured 18 ties and 11 lead changes, the Eagles ultimately came up short in overtime suffering a 93-87 defeat.
Midway, who falls to 1-1 on the young season following the loss, had five players reach double figures led by Donnie Miller who scored 22 points to go with a game-high eight assists. David Woodard, who hit 5-of-8 from downtown, scored 19 points in 33 minutes off the bench.
A jump shot from Miller with just under four minutes left in overtime gave the Eagles an 84-80 lead. The Tigers, who improved to 2-1 on the season, immediately answered with a triple and a few moments later a jump shot to take an 85-84 advantage with 2:41 remaining.
Jalen Cincore, who just missed another double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds, later nailed a pair of free throws to tie the game for the final time at 87 with just over a minute remaining.
Unfortunately for the Blue and Gold, they struggled to get a stop down the stretch as Campbellsville closed the game on a 6-0 run en route to the 93-87 victory.
Two other Eagles reached double figures with Tim Fuller adding 13 points, while Nick Keeton chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds, hitting 5-of-5 from the floor.
Akeem Scott's squad shot 37.7 percent from the floor, while the Tigers hit 43.5 percent. The Eagles also hit 10-of-26 from the floor compared to just 6-of-22 by the home team.
Midway is set to wrap up play in the Campbellsville Classic on Saturday when they take on Cumberlands (Ky.) at 2 p.m. ET. The Patriots improved to 3-0 on the season on Friday with a 76-72 victory over IU Southeast (Ind.).
