Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Coming off their first of six exhibitions against NCAA Division I foes, the schedule didn't get any easier for the Midway men's basketball team after they made the short trip to fifth-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) on Thursday night.
The Eagles went toe-to-toe with the Tigers in the early going and soared to a 22-14 lead, but the home team quickly seized control and would take a 43-36 lead at intermission en route to the 87-65 victory.
The Tigers, who improved to 5-0 with the win, shot 52.2 percent from the floor, while holding the Blue and Gold to a 37.3 percent clip. Midway's big advantage came from long distance where they hit 12-of-27 compared to 6-of-15 by the Tigers.
The Eagles opened the game with four consecutive 3-pointers to sprint to a 12-1 lead. Tim Fuller hit two of the three, while Jalen Cincore and Donnie Miller each hit a pair from behind the arc to cap the hot start.
After being held scoreless for three plus minutes, Will VanHook hit a trey before Cincore hit his second of the game with 10:35 left in the half. Just a minute later, Nick Keeton added a layup to push the lead to 22-14.
A David Woodard triple with just over seven minutes left in the half helped slow a Georgetown rally, but the Eagles hit just three field goals over the final seven minutes of the first half. The offensive struggles allowed Georgetown to take a 43-36 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers quickly extended their lead to double figures early in the second half before pulling away for the 87-65 victory.
Cincore and Miller led the way with 18 and 10 points, respectively. Keeton, who scored eight points, grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
The Eagles are set to return to action on Tuesday (November 14) when they travel to Cumberlands (Ky.). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET in Williamsburg.
