Box Score MIDWAY, Ky . - After missing 20 of its first 24 field goal attempts, it seemed like the only records the Midway offense might break Saturday would be ones for futility.
But once shots started falling, they didn't stop, as a slew of program and individual records were either broken or equalled in the process.
The Eagles hit a single-game record 16 3-pointers, David Woodard tied a team-record with seven 3s and Midway pulled away for a dominant 100-69 win over Brescia in a River States Conference men's basketball matchup at Marshall Gymnasium.
The Eagles missed 14-of-15 shot attempts at one point and came up empty on each of their first nine 3-point attempts as Brescia built an early 20-8 lead
But a successful attempt by Woodard started an unstoppable stretch over the game's final 28:04, in which Midway made 16-of-25 from behind the arc.
The record was clinched when reserve Brant Brower hit two triples in the game's final 1:19. The previous record of 15 was reached twice, one of which also came against Brescia on Feb. 15, 2018. The other was against Indiana Kokomo on Feb. 11, 2017
Woodard's seven 3s all came on consecutive attempts, highlighted by a shot just in front of the halfcourt line before halftime, turning what had been a 12-point deficit into a 42-33 lead. He finished the game with 25 points.
He's the fourth Eagle to make seven 3-pointers in a game, joining Bryson Harris, who did so on Nov. 11, 2016; DJ Townsend, who accomplished it on Jan. 27, 2018; and current teammate Donnie Miller, who reached that total on Jan. 27, 2022.
Miller had 17 points on Saturday, with Jalen Cincore (15) and Nick Keeton (14) scoring in double figures as well for the Eagles, who also broke a school record for 100-point games in a season, having now reached that mark three times in just eight games.
Keeton led the team with six rebounds while Will VanHook had six assists for the 4-4 Eagles, who improve to 2-0 in the RSC.
The Eagles will take the court just one time in the next 12 days and it will come in an exhibition against NCAA Division-I Austin Peay (Tenn.) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. It will be the sixth and final exhibition Midway will play against a D-I team this season.
