Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Midway softball team opened its 2023 season on Wednesday when it hit the road to take on No. 20 Campbellsville (Ky.) in a doubleheader. The hosts took game one by a score of 9-0 before claiming an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.
Game 1: Campbellsville 9, Midway 0
In the first game, the host Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the opening frame to take an early lead. Campbellsville added to their advantage with a leadoff home run to left in the bottom of the third and added four more runs in the fourth to make the score 9-0.
Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.) took the loss in the season opener, surrendering nine runs on nine hits in four innings of work. Midway's five base hits came courtesy of Mary Andres (Louisville, Ky.), Kennadi Thompson (Louisville, Ky.), Taylor Dukate (Owensboro, Ky.), Katie Rhodes (Cedar Hill, Tenn.) and Carly Jones (Bardstown, Ky.).
Game 2: Campbellsville 8, Midway 0
In the nightcap, the hosts took a 1-0 lead thanks to a solo homer in the bottom of the second and added three more runs before the end of the inning. The Tigers added another pair of runs in the third, one in the fourth and one the fifth to pick up the 8-0 victory.
In the circle, Sarah Jo Calhoun (Campbellsville, Ky.) was credited for the loss after giving up four runs on three hits in two innings of work. Alexia Hoskins (Dickson, Tenn.) came out of the bullpen and surrendered four runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings pitched. The Eagles offense picked up a double from Rhodes in the fifth and singles came off the bats of Kyra McCall (White House, Tenn.), Sidney Hudnall (Cromwell, Ky.) and Jones.
Midway women's softball returns to the diamond on Friday, February 24 when they face off with Reinhardt (Ga.). First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Waleska, Ga.
