Game 1: Oakland City 1, Midway 0
The opener saw Emily Fitzwater mow down the Midway lineup as she surrendered just one hit in the win. She would take a perfect game into the sixth, but a bunt single by Carly Jones (Bardstown, Ky.) broke up the perfect game and secured the lone hit for her team.
Oakland City – who notched five hits – scored one run on two hits in the opening frame off Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.). Ludwig was ultimately dealt the loss after tossing a complete game, and allowing one run with five strikeouts.
Game 2: Midway 10, Oakland City 2 (5 Innings)
Similar to game one, the Mighty Oaks struck first scoring two runs in the first. From that point on, Oakland City was held in check as Midway tied the game with two runs in the fourth frame.
The inning saw Lauren Lingafelter (Haubstadt, Ind.) lace an RBI double to left scoring Katie Rhodes (Cedar Hill, Tenn.) who opened the inning with a triple. Lingafelter's pinch runner, Shayna Villier (Lawrenceburg, Ky.), later scored on an RBI single by Makenna Talcott (Gray, Ga.).
Following a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, Midway clinched the run-rule victory after scoring eight runs on four hits in the bottom half of the fifth. Lingafelter drove in the first run after reaching on a fielder's choice, while Kennadi Thompson (Louisville, Ky.) drove in a run with an RBI single.
Madison Ludwig then added an RBI with a fielder's choice, while Talcott drove in a run after reaching on an error. Thompson crossed the plate when Kyra McCall (White House, Tenn.) reached on an error, while Makayla McDowell (Nicholasville, Ky.) ripped a two-run double to left that pushed Midway's lead to 9-2.
With runners on second and third, Emily Taylor (Walton, Ky.) hit a walk-off RBI single scoring McCall to clinch the 10-2 run-rule victory.
Ludwig picked up the win in relief improving to 5-2 on the season after tossing the final 1.1 innings. Sarah Jo Calhoun (Campbellsville, Ky.) got the start and allowed two runs on nine hits in her 3.2 innings.
