Box Score 2 GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Midway softball team faced off with Georgetown (Ky.) in a non-conference doubleheader. Unfortunately, the Tigers swept the twinbill, winning game one by a score of 5-2 before shutting out the Eagles 5-0 in the nightcap.
With the sweep, Midway falls to 9-7 for the year, while Georgetown improves to 14-10 overall.
Game 1: Georgetown 5, Midway 2
In the first game of the day, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Eagles responded by scoring two runs on three hits in the fourth.
Kennadi Thompson (Louisville, Ky.) opened the inning with a single and Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.) followed with a double. Makayla McDowell (Nicholasville, Ky.) then laced an RBI single to right, scoring Thompson, while Ludwig scored on an error by the right fielder.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, that would be the only offense they would produce as the Tigers pulled away with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half en route to the 5-2 victory.
In the circle, Ludwig was delt the loss to see her record to drop to 6-3 for the year. She struck out three while allowing eight hits in six innings of work.
For the contest, McDowell went 1-for-3 and drove in a run, while Katie Rhodes (Cedar Hill, Tenn.), Carly Jones (Bardstown, Ky.), Thompson, and Ludwig all recorded one hit apiece.
Game 2: Georgetown 5, Midway 0
In the nightcap, Georgetown jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the bottom of the first. The Tigers then added a pair of runs in the fifth along with an insurance tally in the sixth to take game two by a 5-0 score.
In the circle, Sarah Jo Calhoun (Campbellsville, Ky.) took the loss to see her record fall to 3-3. She scattered seven hits in six innings while striking out one.
Offensively, Jones went two-for-three while Raigan Allbert (White Bluff, Tenn.) and Taylor Dukate (Owensboro, Ky.) each recorded base hits.
