Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Following a sweep of Carlow (Pa.) on Saturday, the Midway softball team returned to the Centre Softball Field on Sunday to battle Point Park (Pa.) in a River States Conference doubleheader.

The Eagles scored seven unanswered runs in the opener en route to a 7-1 victory, but Point Park bounced back in the nightcap, jumping out to an early 3-1 advantage before hanging on for the 6-3 victory to secure the split.

Following Sunday's result, Midway moves to 12-8 overall and 6-2 in league play. The Pioneers, meanwhile, go to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in RSC play.

Game 1: Midway 7, Point Park 1

The Pioneers struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first, but Midway immediately answered with two runs in the bottom half. Raigan Allbert (White Bluff, Tenn.) singled and scored when Taylor Dukate (Owensboro, Ky.) reached on a two-out error, while Kennadi Thompson (Louisville, Ky.) walked and later scored on a wild pitch as Midway gained a 2-1 advantage.

The lead ballooned to 6-1 after Midway tacked on four more in the third. Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.) drove in a run after reaching on a fielder's choice, while Dukate ripped a two-run double before scoring on an RBI single by Makenna Talcott (Gray, Ga.).

Dukate then drove in her third run of the day in the fourth when she laced an RBI single up the middle, scoring Katie Rhodes (Cedar Hill, Ky.), who walked to lead off the inning. Dukate led the way at the dish going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.

The run support was more than enough for Ludwig, who picked up her second win of the weekend. She tossed a complete game allowing one unearned run on six hits as she improved to 8-3 on the season with the win.

Game 2: Point Park 6, Midway 3

Midway struck first in the nightcap with a run in the opening stanza. Katie Rhodes walked to begin the inning and later scored on an RBI single by Taylor Dukate. The lead, however, was short lived after the Pioneers scored three unearned runs on two Midway errors in the second.

The Eagles cut the deficit to one run in the third when Emily Taylor (Walton, Ky.) sent an RBI single to center, but the Pioneers once again answered with a three spot in the top of the fifth.

The home team scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the fifth, but they failed to rally in the final two innings as they fell by a final score of 6-3.

Sarah Jo Calhoun (Campbellsville, Ky.) was dealt the loss allowing three unearned runs on five hits in her 2.1 innings of work. Madison Ludwig tossed the final 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on four this with four strikeouts.
