NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- On Tuesday, the Midway softball team ventured across the Ohio River to take on IU Southeast (Ind.) in a River States Conference doubleheader. Unfortunately, the Grenadiers swept the twinbill, winning the opener 9-3 before taking the nightcap 8-6.

With the sweep, Midway falls to 12-10 overall and 6-4 in RSC competition, while IU Southeast improves to 15-7 and 8-0 in the RSC.

Game 1: IU Southeast 9, Midway 3

In the opener, Midway got on the board in the top of the second when Makenna Talcott (Gray, Ga.) drove in a run with an RBI groundout. In the bottom of the third, IU Southeast scored a trio of runs to take a 3-1 lead.

Talcott drove in two more with an RBI single in the fourth to tie the game, but the Grenadiers plated six unearned runs across the fifth and sixth innings en route to the 9-3 victory.

In the circle, Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.) was handed the loss. She tossed a complete game and allowed just two earned runs on eight hits as she fell to 8-4 with the loss.

Game 2: IU Southeast 8, Midway 6

The nightcap saw the Grenadiers soar to an early 3-0 lead after two innings, but Midway answered with two in the top of the third getting an RBI triple from Katie Rhodes (Cedar Hill, Tenn.) and an RBI groundout from Raigan Allbert (White Bluff, Tenn.).

IU Southeast added a run in the fourth, but the Eagles took their first lead in the fifth after scoring four runs on three hits. Mary Andres (Louisville, Ky.) picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice and Taylor Dukate (Owensboro, Ky.) added a two-run single, while Makenna Talcott gave her team a 6-4 lead with an RBI groundout.

Unfortunately, the Grenadiers answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 6-6. IU Southeast then added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take game two 8-6.

Madison Ludwig was given the loss after allowing five runs – four earned – on nine hits in her four innings of work in the circle.
