Box Score 2 MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway softball team wrapped up its regular season on Sunday afternoon when it welcomed St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) to William G. Clark Memorial Field for a River States Conference doubleheader. Unfortunately, the Pomeroys claimed a 4-3 victory in game one and completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.
With the losses, Midway finishes the regular season with a record of 27-17 overall and 20-8 in RSC play while the Pomeroys improve to 32-14 overall and 18-8 in league play.
Game 1: St. Mary-Woods 4, Midway 3
In the opener, Midway got on the board first with a run in the second inning. With one out, Taylor Dukate (Owensboro, Ky.) doubled to left center. The next batter, Makenna Talcott (Gray, Ga.), then singled to center, driving in Dukate and giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
While St. Mary scored a pair in the top of the third, Midway equalized with a run in the bottom of the fourth. With two gone, Mary Andres (Louisville, Ky.) singled to center field, bringing in Sidney Hudnall (Cromwell, Ky.) and tying the game a 2-2.
The Pomeroys took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but the Eagles were able to climb within a run. With one out, Talcott reached on a fielder's choice driving in Emily Taylor (Walton, Ky.). Midway did have an opportunity in the bottom of the seventh but were not able to plate any runs and lost 4-3.
In the circle, Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.) saw her record fall to 19-9 on the season. She gave up four runs on eight hits in seven innings of work while striking out seven.
Game 2: St. Mary-Woods 3, Midway 2
The nightcap started off as a pitcher's duel with neither team scoring until Midway took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Taylor Dukate singled, scoring Kennadi Thompson (Louisville, Ky.) giving Midway the advantage.
The Eagles doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth when Thompson singled to right center, driving in Carly Jones (Bardstown, Ky.). Unfortunately, the Pomeroys scored a trio of runs in the top of the sixth and completed the Sunday sweep with a 3-2 win.
In the circle, Makayla McDowell (Nicholasville, Ky.) saw her record slip to 3-2 with the loss. She struck out three in seven innings of work while giving up three runs on nine hits.
