Box Score SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- The Midway softball team opened up their postseason run on Thursday (May 4) when they battled West Virginia Tech on the opening day of the River States Conference Tournament at Little Creek Park in South Charleston, West Virginia.
It was a tough day for the Midway offense as they recorded just two hits, while the Golden Bears plated five runs on eight hits en route to the 5-0 victory.
With the loss, the Eagles will drop into the consolation bracket. Their next game is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Friday against the loser of the game between IU Southeast (Ind.) and St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.). That game will be contested at noon ET on Friday.
The Golden Bears got on the board first when they tacked on a trio of runs in the top of the third. The visitors then added a pair of insurance tallies in the sixth inning to close out the scoring.
In the circle, Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.) recorded the loss and saw her record drop to 19-10 for the campaign. She gave up five runs – three earned – on eight hits while striking out eight in seven innings of work.
Ludwig's counterpart, Courtney Miles, picked up the win improving to 15-8 on the year. She tossed a complete game scattering just two hits with six strikeouts.
Ludwig accounted for one of Midway's two hits, while Makenna Talcott (Gray, Ga.) reached on a one-out single in the second.
