MIDWAY, Ky. - Another great week produced another River States Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for Midway freshman
A'Lyrica Hughes.
The Owensboro, Ky. native has been a force on both ends of the floor for the Eagle women's basketball team all season, and was at her best last weekÂ
to win the weekly defensive award for the second time.
Hughes recorded six steals in just 17 minutes
in an 84-44 win over Miami Middletown (Ohio) on Nov. 19, then had five more i
n a road game against in-state foe Cumberlands, the No. 8-ranked team in the NAIA, on Saturday.
Entering Monday, Hughes was tied for 12th in the nation with 3.8 steals per-game.
She's done all this while also leading the Eagles in scoring (15.3 points per-game) and rebounding (5.8). Hughes averaged 17.5 points and 4.0 rebounds last week while recording a perfect shooting performance (6-of-6 from the field, 4-of-4 from the free throw line) against Middletown.
The Eagles (3-3) are in Ohio for a pair of road games this week, starting with a 6 p.m. tip against Cincinnati-Clermont on Tuesday.
