Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - In a little under seven minutes of game time, Midway men's basketball guard Donnie Miller was able to hit two major milestones in a matchup against St. Mary of the Woods Saturday.
Moments after becoming the second 2,000-point scorer in program history, Miller surpassed Kwon Evans as Midway's all-time leading scorer in what eventually became a 90-66 loss.
Miller, who had 1,998 career points coming into the day, joined the 2K club on his first shot, a 3-pointer 5:09 into the game. Then, as he has for much of his career, the senior guard used his excellent driving ability to get the remaining points he needed.
He slashed his way in for a layup with 11:07 to play in the first half before getting to the line and making a pair of free throws 41 seconds later, tying Evans' mark of 2,005.
Then, with 8:06 to go in the half, Miller took an outlet pass from Nick Keeton, drove up court and beautifully split two defenders, getting points 2,006 and 2,007 on a reverse layup.
This wall all part of a 19-point first-half for Miller. He scored 10 during a 14-4 run the Eagles put together to force a 36-36 tie at halftime.
He finished the game with 25 points, two shy of the season high he hit in Midway's previous game against Indiana Kokomo. Miller has scored 20-plus points in three straight games and five of his last seven.
Sadly for Midway, the offensive explosion from the end of the first half was nowhere to be found in the second, as the River States West leading Pomeroys opened on a 14-0 run and never let the Eagles back in the game.
The loss drops Midway to to 6-10 in league play. Fighting for their postseason lives, the Eagles have two games remaining in the regular season against opponents they've previously beaten.
They travel to face Indiana Southeast on Thursday then host Indiana East in the regular season finale next Saturday.
