Box Score 2 GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Big innings were Midway's undoing, as Brenau came from behind to defeat the Eagles 8-6 and 8-7 in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Saturday.
BRENAU 8, MIDWAY 6
RBIs by Kyra McCall and Carly Jones in back-to-back at-bats in the top of the fourth inning gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead, but it would dissipate quickly, as the Tigers answered with seven runs in the inning's bottom half.
Midway would score in each of the next three innings and cut the deficit to 8-6 on another Jones RBI single in the seventh. The Eagles then put runners on second and third before Brenau closer Carlie Neal was able to record a game-ending groundout.
Jones finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate, with her and Ryann Berger, who hit a game-tying home run in a win over No. 21 Reinhardt on Friday, both had two RBIs.
BRENAU 8, MIDWAY 7
Berger and Jones had two more RBIs to lead the Eagles back from a 5-1 deficit, as they eventually tied the game on a McCall RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.
But the hometown Tigers took advantage of having the final at-bat, walking off on a two-out Riley Smith single in the seventh.
Tenley Gilbert also drove in two runs for the 1-3 Eagles, who host in-state opponent Asbury in their home opener next Friday. The first game of a scheduled doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
