Box Score MIDWAY, Ky - While a balanced offense did its part on one end, Tobias Thompson made life miserable for Oakland City (Ind.) on the other.
Thompson tied his own single-game program record with seven blocked shots and three Eagles scored in double figures as Midway secured its third consecutive win, taking down the Mighty Oaks 74-62 in a River States Conference men's basketball game at Marshall Gymnasium Tuesday.
The senior from Louisville, who led the entire conference with 66 blocks last season, got all his rejections in the first half Tuesday night. He was particularly proficient during a stretch with just under five minutes to play, when he logged three blocks in just 38 seconds.
Thompson, who also had six points and seven rebounds, equaled the program record he set in a game against St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.) last February. His defense played a key role in the Eagles keeping the Oaks at arm's length, as they held a double-digit lead for 32 minutes, 18 seconds of game action.
Fresh off of leading a record-setting point outburst in Midway's last outing at Indiana East, Nick Keeton and Donnie Miller were the team's top options again, scoring 18 and 17 points respectively.
Keeton has been a model of efficiency in the last two games, averaging 21 points on 83 percent shooting from the field, while Miller is now just 55 points away from breaking Kwon Evans' program scoring record of 2,005 points.
Jalen Cincore overcame early foul trouble to add 15 points, including a highlight-reel dunk off a Will VanHook lob late in the second half. VanHook added a team-best nine rebounds and four assists, while also tying Robbie Henry with a game-high three steals.
After struggling for much of December and January, a highly energized Eagle team appears to be hitting its stride as it improves to 8-11 overall and 6-7 in the RSC.
Midway has a great chance to add to its season-best winning streak on Saturday when it travels to Owensboro to face Brescia at 4 p.m. It will be the second meeting between the two squads this season, with the Eagles winning the first 100-69 behind a single-game program record 16 3-pointers.
