Box Score 2 MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway again dealt with consistency issues on Sunday, as the Eagle softball team earned a fourth split in its sixth River States Conference softball series against Point Park.
The Eagles won via run-rule in a dominant 9-1 final in the opener, only to muster two hits and surrender four unearned runs in the fifth inning of a 7-1 loss in game two.
GAME ONE
Midway put together four-consecutive hits in the bottom of the first inning, with Tenley Gilbert kicking off the surge with a triple. She came around to score on a Kennadi Thompson bunt single, then following a Katie Rhodes double, Sawyer Snodgrass made it 3-0 with a two-run single.
Rhodes and Ryann Berger both had two-run hits, Rhodes on a second-inning triple, Berger a third-inning single. Kyra McCall also had two hits and reached safely in all three of her plate appearances, while ending the game in the fifth inning on an RBI double.
The offense got great support from pitcher Breanna Beach, who allowed just four hits and fell one out shy of a shutout in a complete-game effort.
GAME TWO
The offense was far less potent in the second game, as singles by Carly Jones in the second inning and Snodgrass in the fourth were the Eagles' only hits, though Snodgrass did give Midway a 1-0 lead going into the fifth inning.
That all changed when back-to-back errors allowed the Pioneers to put up four unearned runs to take a three-run lead. They then put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh on a three-run Sydnie Reese homer.
Now 8-14 overall and 6-6 in the RSC, the Eagles are set to begin an eight-game road swing this Tuesday, when the make the short trip to Georgetown for a non-conference doubleheader.
