Box Score 2 BECKLEY, W.V. - Midway had its most productive offensive series of the season, going on the road to sweep West Virginia Tech 8-0 and 14-5 in a River States Conference softball doubleheader Friday.
GAME ONE
The offense did all its damage in the first and fourth innings of the opener. Kennadi Thompson drove in Tenley Gilbert for the first run before Sawyer Snodgrass brought home two more with a single.
The Eagles then had three extra-base hits in the fourth, including an RBI double by Sidney Hudnall and a bases-clearing, three-run triple by Katie Rhodes.
Rhodes, Payton Baum and Ryann Berger all had two hits, with Gilbert and Thompson both scoring two runs.
That was plenty of offense for Breanna Beach, who allowed just three hits in five innings of work.
GAME TWO
The offense was even better in game two, putting together 14 hits and scoring multiple runs in four of six innings to secure a second-straight run-rule win.
The Eagles trailed 2-0 after one inning, but took a 6-2 lead in the second, aided by four walks, two pass balls, a walk and an error.
RBIs by Thompson and Carly Jones in the fourth then gave Midway breathing room after the Bears cut the deficit to 6-5 and started a game-ending 8-0 scoring run by the Eagles.
All told, eight of Midway's nine batters had at least one hit, with Berger and Thompson both recording three. Berger also scored four runs with Thompson driving in four
Gilbert (three) and Jones (two) also had multiple RBIs, with Gilbert, Baum, Kyra McCall and Hudnall all scoring two runs.
In the pitching circle, Anna Duncan threw four innings of shutout relief, striking out three to earn her first collegiate win for the 10-14 Eagles.
At 8-6 in the RSC, Midway is multiple games over .500 in conference play for the first time this season. It looks to keep things going in another road doubleheader, this one at Rio Grande (Ohio), with the first game starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
