Box Score 2 TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Facing a good opponent and coming off a week out of action, Midway softball looked rusty in its return to the field Sunday, losing 6-2 and 3-0 in a doubleheader at St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.).
GAME ONE
The Eagles took what proved to be their only lead of the day in the top of the first inning, when Katie Rhodes singled home Kennadi Thompson.
The Pomeroys proceeded to score the next three runs before a fifth-inning RBI single by Thompson cut the deficit to 3-2. But all positive momentum was completely halted in the bottom of the inning, thanks to a three-run home run by Lyric Krause.
GAME TWO
Midway got an unwanted sense of deja vu in the first inning, when Krause hit her second three-run homer in as many at bats, bringing in the game's only runs.
Makayla McDowell settled in nicely after a slow start as she didn't allow another run over her next five innings of work. But she was unable to get the needed run support from an offense that stranded at least one runner in six of seven at-bats and left the bases loaded in the fourth.
The Eagles fall to 14-18 overall with a 12-10 mark in the River States Conference.
Weather permitting, things won't get easier for Midway on Tuesday, when it travels to face RSC leader Indiana Southeast (25-12, 19-3) for a doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m. This will be the third-consecutive Tuesday the teams were scheduled to play each other, with the previous two getting rained out.
