Box Score 2 NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Anna Duncan delivered the best performance of her college career at an ideal time, as her shutout in the pitching circle helped the Midway softball team earn a road split against River States Conference-leading Indiana Southeast in a Tuesday softball doubleheader.
Duncan led the Eagles to a 2-0 win in game two after IUS handily won the opener 12-4.
GAME TWO
Facing a Grenadier team that was 20-3 in league play and second in the conference in runs scored, Duncan allowed just four hits and escaped numerous difficult situations.
After IUS left two on in the first inning, she retired 10 straight before escaping a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fifth by forcing consecutive flyouts.
The Grenadiers then put a runner on second with one out in the seventh, but Duncan again forced fly ball outs on back-to-back plays, neither of which left the infield.
She got all the support she needed in the second inning, via an RBI double by Payton Baum and an RBI single by Sidney Hudnall.
GAME ONE
The Grenadier offense was more like its potent self in the opener, jumping out to an 11-0 lead after three innings.
Midway's entire four-run, four-hit offensive output came in the fifth inning. Kyra McCall (sacrifice fly), Ryann Berger (single) and Kennadi Thompson (walk) all had RBIs, while Sierra Watson scored on a wild pitch.
Now 15-19 overall and 12-10 in conference play, the Eagles are scheduled to close out the regular season with six-consecutive home games, starting with a Friday doubleheader against Oakland City.
Game one is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
