GAME TWO
Jones, who had two hits in each game, gave Midway a boost in the bottom of the fifth, when her RBI single brought home Tenley Gilbert to tie the game at two.
After the first two batters were retired in the bottom of the sixth, a Ryann Berger single and IUS error put runners on first third. Next batter Sidney Hudnall then gave Midway the lead when she chopped a single just over the glove of Grenadier first baseman McKenzie Walters.
Midway added three more runs, with three of its seniors making the most of their final home plate appearances. Rhodes, who also had an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, scored on a bases loaded walk by McCall. Jones and Kennadi Thompson then drew bases loaded walks as well to help the Eagles close River States Conference play with a 16-16 record.
The offense came to life in time to earn Alexia Hoskins another win in conference play. Hoskins allowed just two unearned runs off of two uncharacteristic errors by the Midway defense in the second inning.
Hoskins, who scattered six hits in seven innings, currently has an 8-2 record against RSC opponents.
