MIDWAY, Ky. - Nearly a month after their
record-setting starts to the indoor track and field season,
Carson Milner and
Cole Sexton's efforts were rewarded by the River States Conference.
Milner was named RSC Runner of the Week, with Sexton earning Field Athlete of the Week honors, after each secured first-place finishes at the season-opening Centre First Chance meet on Dec. 7.
Monday marked the first time the conference presented track and field awards this season and allowed anyone who'd taken part in an indoor event thus far to be nominated.
Milner's honor came after winning the one-mile race in an event-record time of 4:24.04. This is the second RSC weekly award won by the sophomore,
who was previously named Outdoor Runner of the Week last March 25.
Sexton earned his first weekly award following a win in the weight throw. On his first throw of the season, the junior from Catlettsburg, Ky. broke his own program record with a toss of 14.37 meters.
This is the first time Midway has ever swept the weekly indoor track and field awards and its first win in either category since
Jacob Kocis won track athlete honors
on Feb. 6, 2023.
The Eagles begin the busiest stretch of the indoor season this weekend, when they travel to Huntington, W.V. for the Marshall Alumni Classic, an event hosted by the NCAA Division-I Thundering Herd.
