EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Like the men's team
earlier in the afternoon, the Midway women's tennis squad got to the River States Conference Championship final, only to be thwarted by Oakland City for the third year in a row.
After Friday's semifinals were postponed due to rain, the Eagles came out sharp Saturday morning in a 4-0 throttling of Indiana Kokomo. But the Mighty Oaks continued their dominance of the league, winning a third-straight title and 23rd-consecutive conference match with a 4-0 triumph over Midway in the finals.

Midway clinched the doubles point in just under a half hour, thanks to 6-1 wins by both the No. 1 team of
Agustina Olivero and
Mara Guillen, and the No. 3 team of
Tanit Cevada and
Sofia Rueda.
The Eagles then secured the win by dropping just three total games at singles spots No. 1, 4 and 5.Â
Olivero defeated top Cougar player Ava Allen 6-1, 6-1,
Nana Hishida beat Kennedy Perrin 6-0, 6-1 and No. 4 and Cevada swept Mia Federspill 6-0. 6-0 at No. 5.

The Eagles managed to win just one set before the Mighty Oaks got to the clinching point. Rueda defeated Juliana Puente 6-3 in the opener of No. 6 singles.
Olivero and Guillen also held a 4-3 lead over Cristian Hurtado and Maria Trembach at No. 1 doubles before the match was called due to OCU locking up the doubles point.
Midway, which is now 11-4 on the season, lost just one point to River States teams other than Oakland City during the year.Â
The Eagles are still looking for their first conference title, with Saturday marking the eighth time in program history they've landed in the runner-up spot.Â
