LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The momentum of an excellent cross country season carried over into indoor track and field for Midway's
Carson Milner.
Fresh off a fall that included both
national and
All-American honors, Milner was the winner of the 5,000-meter run as he and the Eagles opened the indoor season at the Bellarmine Open Friday.
All told, four Eagles secured top-eight finishes at the Open, though no final team scores were recorded.
Milner finished the race in 15:21.18. Even more impressive is that the second and third-place runners, Nathan Whitehead and Nicholas Hirsch of Evansville, came from NCAA Division-I programs.
In the triple jump,
Ben Jones and
Latavian Hamilton placed third and fourth respectively. Jones' best mark was 12.61 meters, while Hamilton topped out at 11.84.
Elsewhere,
Brayden Carson finished eighth in the high jump, topping out at 1.80 meters.
Landing in the top-10 in shot put was
Cole Sexton, who was 10th with a throw of 13.33.
Friday was the start of four-consecutive weekends of competition for Midway, which travels to Danville, Ky. for the Centre Indoor Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 24.
