MIDWAY, Ky. - For the fifth time in her year-and-a-half at Midway,
A'Lyrica Hughes has been named River States Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
In two games last week, the sophomore guard recorded 13 steals, starting with a career-high nine
in a 96-79 win over Kentucky Christian last Tuesday.
She added four more steals and two blocks four days later against Saint Mary of the Woods, as the Pomeroys had more turnovers (39) than points
in a 75-37 Eagle blowout.
Hughes leads the RSC with 52 steals for a Midway team that enters the week ninth in the NAIA with 25.8 forced turnovers per-game.
This is her second Defensive Player of the Week award this season,
as she also earned the honor on Nov. 3. It's the third Player of the Week win for the team, as
Alexys Moore also capturedÂ
offensive honors Nov. 17.
The Eagles, who are 13-5 overall with a 4-2 mark in conference play, look to extend a four-game winning streak at home against West Virginia Tech on Tuesday.
